I have noticed that UEFA for fear of being seen as “too passive” on violence and racism, has been giving all kinds of fines to all countries.
Russian fans fight against Polish fans and stewards= fines for the Polish and Russian FAs
Croatia fans make racist remarks towards a rival player and throw flairs= Croatian FA fined
German fans show Neo-Nazi symbols = German FA fined
English fans attempt pitch invasion against Sweden= English FA fined.
The list continues and will continue to grow. My question is where does the money for the fines go to?
What is fining the Russian or Croatian FA going to achieve with regards to those fans that caused the issues in the first place and did not get fined themselves?
I think any fines should be used by UEFA to organise anti violence and anti racism programs in the countries involved.
Set steps and guidelines for those programs, supervise them and make sure that they actually take place.
Use that money to help those FAs identify (from video evidence) the fans who cause the problems and make sure they are punished accordingly.
If there are any fines to be dished out for all of these issues, it should go to the organisers who are failing to control the situations when they arise.
What are the German or English FA guilty of if people commit the offences that they are accused of?
Is it within the German FA’s capabilities to check what travelling fans take in their bags before they leave the country and look for Neo-Nazi flags?
Or is it the English FA’s job to send a letter to all fans attending a game telling them that it is against the rules to invade the pitch?
It is the attending fans and the event policing who should share the responsibility for these actions.
Fining for fining sake, without a plan to stop this trend before it gets out of hand, will solve nothing.
What better fun for a racist supporter than making monkey chants and throw bananas at the opposition in the knowledge that he is not going to get punished for it?
Does he care that his national federation will get fined? Off course he does not.
